No. 3 makes English appearance

The No. 3 car made legendary by the late Dale Earnhardt will be making a brief return to the track in a few days, but not in this country.

The car Earnhardt scored his 76th and final win in will be a part of the Goodwood Festival of Speed in West Sussex, England July 3-5.

The car making the trip to England carried Earnhardt to victory lane at Talladega Superspeedway in 2000. Until the trip, the car had been on display at the Richard Childress Racing Museum since it opened in May 2003.

“The GM Goodwrench Chevrolet Monte Carlo brought incredible fame and prestige to the General Motors brand, and we are honored to see this racing legacy returning to action, if only for a one-time event,” said Jim Moloney, general director, marketing for General Motors’ Service and Parts Operation. “This participation in the Goodwood Festival provides a positive, emotional rallying point for Dale Earnhardt fans and those in the General Motors racing family. We look forward to hearing the engine fire up on the GM Goodwrench Chevrolet once again.”

Former No. 3 crewmembers Danny Lawrence and Rich Burgess have prepared the car for the demonstration.

The festival has been held yearly since 1993. This year’s event will feature several NASCAR stock cars to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Daytona International Speedway.

Earnhardt’s youngest daughter, Taylor, will be behind the wheel for the demonstration on the 1.16-mile, nine-turn hill climb.

“It’s quite an honor to be a part of an event like this and all of the history and nostalgia associated with the Goodwood Festival. It’s very, very exciting,” Earnhardt said. “I’ve already spent some time in the car getting used to it, and I’m looking forward to the demonstration run. Hopefully, the fans in the United States and around the world will enjoy seeing one of my father’s winning cars participate in this awesome event”.
