Ron Hornaday
Ron Hornaday dominated the MemphisTravel.com 200 Camping World Truck Series race at Memphis Motorsports Park on Saturday evening on his way to his second-consecutive win on the season, his second-consecutive win at Memphis, his third win overall on the year, and the third of his career at Memphis.
Come to think of it, Hornaday’s stats on the season sound an awful lot like his career stats at Memphis Motorsports Park.
With the win, Hornaday got his hands on the last Elvis trophy to be awarded for Truck Series wins at Memphis. The Memphis trophy will be redesigned for next year.
"The last Elvis trophy at Memphis, that's pretty cool," Hornaday said. "It was pretty awesome to come here and win the last Elvis trophy. That means a lot."
Hornaday’s performance in Memphis was almost as dominated as the clinic he put on at Milwaukee a week ago. After leading 180 of the 200-lap event at Milwaukee, he came to Memphis and led the way for 176 of another 200-lapper.
A late-race caution brought out by contact between Tayler Malsam and Dennis Setzer set the field up for a green-white-checker finish after several drivers had already started questioning whether or not they were going to make it to the finish on fuel. Fuel apparently wasn’t in as short supply as some had feared, and everyone still in the race that late in the game made their fuel last until the checkered flag fell.
Brian Scott, still racing with a broken wrist, held on to finish second behind Hornaday. David Starr and Aric Almirola finished third and fourth.
Matt Crafton, who is second to Hornaday in the Camping World Truck Series points standings, posted a top-five finish, finishing fifth, to keep the damage of Hornaday’s win to a minimum.
Third-place in points, Mike Skinner finished sixth and held on to his position in the standings.
