It is pretty hard to call a NASCAR season that featured 20 wins, and Nationwide Series championship a disappointment, but Kyle Busch’s failure to make the Sprint Cup Chase field makes it so. The fact here is Kyle is one of the most talented drivers in NASCAR today, and when he figures out the points matter, he may go on a title run to rival the current one of Jimmie Johnson.
The fact here is over the lat two full NASCAR season, in all three national touring divisions, Kyle has won 41 times. In that time Kyle has entered 195 which means he wins 20% of the races he enters. That is simply amazing.
In 2009 on the cup side Kyle completed 97.9% of the laps run, 84.2% of those were run on the lead lap. His 2009 driver rating was 97.8, and he ran 70.1% of the 2009 laps in the top 15. His average running position was 12.4, and he had four wins, nine top 5, and thirteen top ten finishes. He had just two DNF’s one for a crash and one for equipment failure, and earned six million dollars in purse money.
On the Nationwide series side, Kyle won his first NASCAR Championship on the strength of nine wins, twenty five top 5, and thirty top ten finishes. His average start in this series was 7.4, and his average finish was 6.4. He also led 2,689 laps and won 1.5 million dollars in purse money.
In the Truck series Kyle started 15 races, racked up seven wins, eleven top 5, and thirteen top 10 finishes. His average start was 6.8 and his average finish was 4.3. These efforts gave him an additional 619k in prize money.
In 2010 Kyle will step back from running a full Nationwide schedule, he will debut his own truck team at Daytona February, and enter the 2010 Cup season with Dave Rogers as his cup crew chief. The two have worked well together in the Nationwide Series, and Rogers took over the #18 team at Texas in November.
