Now that the 2009 Sprint Cup season is over, we can start to evaluate it driver by driver. We will start with those drivers who ended the 2009 campaign in the Top 35 in owner’s points.
Now #34 John Andretti finished 35th in owner’s points, but with the dissolution of the #26 Roush Fenway team, and the uncertain future of the #07 RCR team a few may additions to this list.
As for John Andretti, running for Front Row Motor sports and owner Bob Jenkins but in all reality early on this was the 4th Earnhardt-Ganassi car, and Teresa Earnhardt was listed as its owner. It started the season running on the 2008 owner’s points from the DEI #15 car.
Say what you will about this team, and understand that it is a lower tier cup team, somewhere in status just above a start and park team, but thanks to the alliance with EGR the #34 team started all 36 Cup races. Andretti was the driver for 34 of those races, and Tony Raines driving the car for the Darlington race, and the Coke 600.
With Andretti in the car they racked up no top five or top 10 finishes, but they finished all but two of the 36 cup races. The team’s average start was 36.5 and their average finish was 29.3. Along the way they earned over three million dollars in purse money.
Front Row Motor Sports would like to move from the one Nationwide team, and one cup team they had in 2008 to two full time Cup teams in 2009. At the moment it is unclear if the alliance with EGR will continue, or if this team will make a move to the Ford camp, and team up with Yates Racing or Hall of Fame Racing.
