The Sweet Pillar Sunrise Collection
Christmas has its cookies, Hanukkah has its Gelt and now Sweet Pillar & Co. is offering a signature treat for Ramadan. Medjool dates have been synonymous with Ramadan since the time of the Prophet, in part because of their many nutritional benefits. But these gourmet Bon dates put a decadent spin on that old classic. They are dipped in fine Belgian chocolate and stuffed with crumbled walnuts.
I eagerly awaited their arrival and when I received the box I could not wait to open it. I was surprised by the care given to the presentation. The Sweet Pillar Sunrise Collection comes in a fancy athletic gold colored case with all the elegance of an old fashioned hat box. The case says simply, "Happy Ramadan" with the company logo underneath.
I was especially pleased to find that the case was shipped with two ice packs so everything was chilled and fresh when it arrived. The moment the seal was broken the intense aroma of chocolate was overwhelming, which made the final hours before iftar simply torturous.
This collection contains 14 large Bon Dates, (5 dark chocolate, 4 milk chocolate, 5 white chocolate) for $25 plus shipping. To give you some idea of it's value, a similar box of 12 chocolate dipped strawberries from Shari's Berries would run you about $45 plus shipping. But you'll never find Medjool dates sour like strawberries sometimes are. And strawberries only stay good for a couple of days before they spoil, while these will stay good for at least a month at room temperature and longer if refrigerated. Not to mention the nutritional superiority of dates.

Sweet Pillar bon date
No exaggeration - these are simply exquisite.
The dates themselves are plump and juicy. Some of the best I've had. They give a nice confectionery chew and are just sticky enough to hold the whole thing together. So, no shards of chocolate to pick up when you're midway through your treat.
I especially liked the nuance of textures. The walnuts are more soft than crunchy, adding a crumbly texture to the already velvety morsel.
The Belgian chocolate is creamy but not runny and incredibly sweet. If you've got a sweet tooth you'll have to hide these from yourself of you'll finish off the whole box. But if you're like me one is enough, just perfect for breaking the fast. It could have used just a tad more salt in my opinion. You might try following it up with something salty.
The beautiful presentation and delicious flavor make these a perfect gift for the Ramadan and Eid holidays. This and other Sweet Pillar gift boxes are available for purchase online at www.sweetpillar.com or any of the retail locations listed below. You won't be disappointed.

Sounds yummy!
I have tried them. There is indeed a lot of care that seems to have been put into the presentation of the box and the dates themselves. The dates are very rich in taste.
