"Hard" is the latest video from R&B singer Rihanna off her album Rated R. The video premiered earlier this month on MTV and MTV.com.
The video, which was directed by Melina Matsoukas, was described by the singer to MTV as "couture military." That's about as fitting a description as one could possible use. The video is short on plot but long on visuals, using scenes of military power to match the lyrics which have Rihanna bragging about her power and popularity. Before you think the song is proof of an inflated ego it should be noted that she also told MTV "It had such an arrogance to it, which is so far from who I am ... which is part of why I wanted to do it. It was fun."
Regardless of whether the arrogance in the lyrics is true, this video continues the singer's trend of trying to have a tougher look while maintaining sex appeal in recent videos. Perhaps the most unique scene comes when she's on top of a pink tank wearing what looks like, at least at first glance, a helmet with Mickey Mouse ears.
