Danger Mouse, a producer/artist that needs no introduction, has been having well-publicized problems with his current label EMI. The legal scuffles almost left Danger Mouse’s latest work shelved indefinitely. Not one to sit and wait for the kinks and loopholes of contracts to work out, Danger Mouse, no stranger to new media and the means of marketing it, decided that if his fans wanted the music, they need only take the time to search . . .
Dark Night Of The Soul will be released as a 100+ page book that chronicles the making of the album from inception to creation, every legal tribulation and new acquaintance included. Photos taken by David Lynch are undoubtedly amazing, but the real kicker of the deal is the actual album is technically included: a generic, blank CD-R will be inset on the inside, back cover of the book. To be filled with the new album’s tracks from torrents, all CD’s will be labeled, "For Legal Reasons, enclosed CD-R contains no music. Use it as you will."
Dark Night Of The Soul is already available to stream for free on NPR, but we all know what Danger Mouse really expects his fans to do . . .
