Babies First Class Filled with Joy for Both Parent and Child
You are a new, or about to be new parent, and may be wondering about your child’s college education. Well, maybe your child’s preschool education anyway! Music education can factor into both of these.
Every class you provide your child will have an impact on their future success – and the positive impact of early music education is clearly stated in numerous research documents. Read more here: http://www.edu-cyberpg.com/pdf/MusicSmart.pdf
So what class should you take? Here is some helpful information on three of the most popular nationally offered curriculums.
Musikgarten offers “Family Music for Babies” where the Parents learn ways to play musically with their babies and the Teacher plays the role of coach. For more information, visit http://www.musikgarten.org/pedagogy.htm
Kindermusik® offers 3 classes for babies. Their new “Family Time” provides a learning experience for everyone, a fun family class where each child is welcome and valued. Their long standing “Villages” class is filled with special bonding moments where the educator adds a unique blend of musical learning activities that stimulate and engage all the senses. There is also a “Sing and Sign” class for 6 months to three year olds where the educator gives you the tools and knowledge to communicate with each other using American Sign Language. For more information, visit http://www.kindermusik.com/Classes/Classes.aspx
Music Together® offers a “Babies Class” which is an optional introductory class to their mixed-age class called their essential “Music Together Class”. This class is one that a child can attend from birth through age four, grouping children of a variety of ages to foster natural, family-style learning. Before you sign-up for ANY of these classes, sit in on a trial class. For two reasons – find the curriculum that fits best, AND the teacher who works best for you and your child.
Please take this to heart! Your child’s first music teacher may shape their experience with all future teachers – so make sure you are very happy with the teacher. There are many fine teachers of all three of these curriculums in the Seattle area, and in most major cities.
And until that first class? Surround your child with musical experiences at home. More on this to come!
