Bassist Adam Clayton of the band U2 is suing his former personal assistant and housekeeper for allegedly stealing up to $2.9 million from his account.

As of last Friday, Clayton had obtained a temporary court order freezing the assets of Carol Hawkins. The case is being brought before the high court on Monday, December 21st for review.

Hawkins is accused of funneling Clayton’s money to pay for property in New York, jewelry and cars. Hawkins has denied using the money inappropriately.

According to court records Clayton became aware of the incident back in September of 2008. As reported by the Independent, he decided to deal with the situation in "a compassionate manner" by not firing Hawkins, but instead made adjustments to his financial arrangement. On November 19th Hawkins was again confronted with evidence she had used both debit and credit cards without Clayton’s authorization, but the sum was then disputed. She was terminated immediately.

Hawkins is accused of withdrawing $971 twice a day for 13 months and depositing it into her personal account, in addition to purchasing airline tickets to Chicago for her son and members of his band.
