French indie band Phoenix will perform tonight bringing their light poppy danceable rhythms to The Fillmore. Even if you don’t think you know who they are, chances are you do.
Their single “1901” is used to pitch Cadillacs, and is the theme song for the television series Melrose Place. "Lisztomania" was used in the season premiere of Cougar Town or if you’re and Entourage fan, the song was used in the final episode for season six. If you were taking the kids to the movies then you heard the song in the trailer for Where The Wild Things Are. 2009 found the band making several year-end top album lists including Time, Rolling Stone and Pitchfork.
For a few years Phoenix was popping out albums like tic tacs, one after the other. Their debut album United spawned the single “Too Young,” which found its way into the soundtrack for the film, Lost In Translation directed by Sofia Coppola. Coppola and vocalist Thomas Mars are expecting their second child this year.
With the release of Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix in 2009, suddenly “Rock Me Amadeus” would not be the only time Mozart’s name would again be uttered by the under thirty crowd. The album was met with critical acclaim and commercial success.
Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix received a Grammy nod in the Best Alternative Music category. If by chance you missed their live performance of "Lisztomania" on SNL there was always Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, The Late Show with David Letterman and The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien.
The band’s tight sound, light show and live energy are sure to turn the Fillmore into a giant dance party.
Phoenix perform Jan. 26 at The Fillmore 1805 Geary Blvd. Showtime: 8pm.
