Lady Gaga is pitching in to help the victims of last month's earth quake in Haiti, but she won't be joining the new 'We Are the World' project.

Lady Gaga states that she was approached to participate in the new 'We Are the World' project to raise money for Haiti, but had to decline due to scheduling conflicts with her 'Monster's Ball' world tour.  Instead, Lady Gaga's team created their own Haitian relief project called "Gaga for Haiti."

All proceeds from Gaga for Haiti are being donated to Project Medishare, a Miami based organization working to provide healthcare in Haiti since 1994.  Lady Gaga tweeted Thursday that more than a half million dollars had been raised for Project Medishare through ticket sales and merchandising.

While the large majority of relief effots have gone to help big budget (and oft-called bureaucratic) relief organizations like the American Red Cross, Lady Gaga says she's proud to be working with an organization focus on direct services:

“We like to work specifically with charities that are based in Haiti itself," Lady Gaga told Access Hollywood.  She also tweeted that Project Medishare  is "a Haitian organization that is non-celebrity related group where all monies donated go directly to the streets."
