Usually when you combine a band with an actress the results are laughable or leave you scratching your head asking "why?" But for one collaboration this very combination produced one song that is in the running for catchy song of the summer. The idea of pop punk band Cobra Starship collaborating with TV star Leighton Meester (better known as Blair from Gossip Girl) should not work but actually it produced a pretty darn good song. The song titled "Good Girls Go Bad" is pure unadulterated fun. It just makes you want to dance with its flirty lyrics and electronic and dance meets pop sound. Leighton who comes in midway through the song actually has a very good voice that is quite distinctive. The back and forth singing of the male singer (Gape Saporta) and Leighton makes the song a playful tribute to going out to the club or a party. Also can't forget the ongoing theme of the song which is one night of being bad can't be so wrong. So naturally this seems destined to be a club favorite much like Lady Gaga's "Poker Face."
Yes this song could count as a guilty pleasure of sorts but it is one of those songs that could easily be envisioned being sang at the top of your lungs as you drive down the street. After all summer is usually good for a few songs that are just for having fun and letting those cares vanish. This song is one of them and should be in the running for 2009's summer dance song although recent upbeat dance tunes like "Boom Boom Pow" by Black Eyed Peas may edge it out slightly. But this song could give them a run for its money. This is one tune that shouldn't be overlooked and may be an underground favorite right now but give a bit of time and this single seems destined to be in heavy rotation everywhere. The single produced by Kevin Rudolf and co-written by Rudolf and Kara DioGuardi (of American Idol fame) is from a forthcoming currently untitled Cobra Starship CD. It is definitely a great way to kick off summer and is good fun for all ages. No it is not just a song for those, to paraphrase the song, who hang with their five best friends in a corner of the club. This naughty song is definitely a great song to get everyone ready for a summer of fun and lets you revel in the carefree fun that the warm months bring. So I highly recommend if you like fun pop tunes with infectious danceable beats then go download "Good Girls Go Bad." Because this song really does make being a little bit bad feel oh so good.
