Most people know Jared Leto from his impressive acting resume that features movies like American Psycho and Alexander and the TV show that put his name on the map: My So Called Life. But he is far from just another talented actor or good looking guy. He also is quite a talented musician with an amazing voice. Leto fronts the band 30 Seconds to Mars with his brother Shannon Leto (drums) and Tomo Milosevic (guitars) and they have released three CDs and developed a dedicated following. Leto despite his fame doesn’t like his name being used to promote the band but instead wants the band to be judged on its musical merit. In this case it works because unlike some other actors turned musicians who shouldn’t give up their day jobs Jared Leto has shown he may have found his true calling as a rock star.
The band is currently on tour with their latest CD: This Is War and will be making a stop in DC this Friday at Bender Arena (located in American University). The band along with talented also appreciate those who give them a job aka the fansor as they are known "The Mars Army." 30 Seconds To Mars are truly appreciative of their fans and constantly look for ways to involve their fans with cool promotions. For example recently they have featured fans photos on their Twitter page, introduced VIP tickets that include meet and greets and are giving select fans chances to play videographer at shows. Their latest CD is slightly different then the more otherworldly, electronic sound of past CDs like their self-titled debut and A Beautiful Lie which spawned hit songs like: “The Kill” and “From Yesterday.” Their latest CD features a much less “Emo” sound and shows their maturity and their ability to craft good, lyric-driven songs even moreso then in the past.
The title track is one of the strongest songs on This Is War and the entire CD is really remarkable and so epic that it definitely should sound amazing on stage. Their first single “Kings and Queens” makes for a gorgeous and powerful anthemic first single off the CD. Tickets are really dirt cheap at only $25 and for that price the crowd gets three opening acts in Street Drum Corps, Neon Trees and Mute Math. Doors open at 6 and the show starts at 7. This is a must see for fans of good rock music and bands that know how to craft complex and unique songs. They also know how to put on one mind blowing show that really is fitting of their name because pardon the pun but the band is truly out of this world.
