The oh-so-fly 'Cobra Starship' comes to San Diego's Soma

Many people are aware that Cobra Starship can make "Good Girls Go Bad" and get booties moving on the dance floor.  What most people don't know, is the true story behind the name and where front man Gabe Saporta had the epiphany for the band...

"Gabe Saporta was in the desert, contemplating his existence, when a cobra bit him on the neck. You're thinking: Yeah right. If a cobra bit his neck he'd be dead. But that's what happened. That moment, in the desert, while Gabe was clutching his neck in pain, hallucinating that the snake was schooling him on the dancefloor, was the inception of Cobra Starship. Not exactly the most conventional way to form a band."

The rest is history. No, seriously.

Since that fateful day in the desert, Gabe and the members who make up Cobra Starship, guitarist Ryland Blackinton, bassist Alex Suarez, keytarist Victoria Asher and drummer Nate Novarro, have put out 3 albums, including their newest and highly raved about "Hot Mess". The single, "Good Girls Go Bad" featuring Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester  has been all over radio stations nationwide.

Cobra Starship is an 80's reminiscent-spunky-funky-specialty on the music scene right now.  They make music fun, catchy, and dance-worthy. You know, that kind of spill-blood-on-the-dancefloor kind of music? That's Cobra Starship. They're not too bad on the eyes either, they've got style and charm that separates them from the masses who bombard the scene with repetitive, unoriginal music.

Lucky for San Diego fans, they will be playing Soma, Saturday, October 24th along with fellow MTV-friendly pop-punky, Boys Like Girls, and fellow Fueled By Ramen band A Rocket to the Moon. For those who haven't purchased tickets yet, do it now, here: https://tickets.somasandiego.com/.
