The anticipated 2009 release of Jack Johnson's En Concert will showcase the singer's European tour

Johnson's Sleep Through the Static achieved Platinum status record sales

After the platinum performance of Jack Johnson’s 2008 release of Sleep Through the Static, the North Shore native has relatively dropped off of the tour circuit; that is, at least in the U.S. he has. With the 2009 release of the singer/songwriter’s DVD En Concert set for August 25th, Jack Johnson and Brushfire Records have prepared the DVD as a compilation of his recent European tour. Designed as a documentary of his trip through Europe on the biggest tour of the musician’s career, En Concert will be released on DVD, Blueray, LP, and CD. Though I’m sure the album and the DVD will be filled with new and old compilations by the singer/songwriter (the tracklisting waits to be revealed), the massive popularity of Jack Johnson and the mellow style of acoustic rock which he has pioneered no doubt promises that this release will be yet another platinum performance from the quiet superstar.

Johnson’s musical philosophy, however, seems to be En Concert’s primary focus. As many are aware, the Hawaiian native’s musical "calmness" is derived from the sort of lifestyle which he lives, and the relaxed nature which many have associated with his Hawaiian heritage. A frequent surfer and campfire-attendee, his affiliation with Hawaiian culture is largely supported not only by his frequent allusions to surfing and beach culture (his style of campfire love songs is essentially pioneering), but also by the frequent public statements he has made about his laidback nature. I’m reminded of a comment which the singer made in a post Sleep Through the Static interview in which he mentioned that his massive popularity and success in the music community was not really that important to him (a fascinating statement, no doubt, coming from such a successful musician). Johnson’s musical philosophy is truly refreshing to see in a music industry run by corporations and businessmen. Thus what En Concert promises to be is not only an interesting display of filmography (Johnson does have a degree in Film Studies from The University of California, Santa Barbara), but also a fascinating revelation of the musician’s uniquely carefree ideology as well.
