As a life long fan of heavy metal music in its various forms, Matt has taken that love and passion for music and turned it into a vehicle through which to explore the inner workings of contemporary music in the heavy metal field. Drawing upon his background in literature, Matt makes a vested effort in examining not merely the sounds, but the ideas conveyed through music, as well as investigating common sources of inspiration in heavy metal, such as historical events, metaphysics, religion, occultism, philosophy, and, primarily, literary works. Having established The Heretic's Torch magazine in 2010, he has already self-published a wealth of original content, including extensive album reviews, band interviews, and articles about various subjects directly related to heavy metal.
