Alternative rock pioneers the Pixies have released a free EP - available for download below - to help commemorate the 20th anniversary of their 1989 release Doolittle.
The release features three tracks from Doolittle - "Monkey Gone To Heaven," "Crackity Jones" and "Gouge Away" - and the b-side "Dancing the Manta Ray," all of which were recorded live on the final show of the band's European tour, Oct. 16 in Paris.
The Pixies current North American tour kicked off Nov. 5 in Los Angeles and runs through Dec. 1, in Washington D.C.
The Pixies formed in 1986 in Boston, MA, and were heavily influenced by indie rock and punk. Comprised of key members Black Francis (Frank Black), Kim Deal, Joey Santiago and David Lovering, the band are widely acknowledged as one of the most important acts in the advent of alternative music in mainstream America. Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain was very vocal in asserting the Pixies' influence on his music.
In the wake of the band's break-up in 1993, Frank Black continued as a solo artist, while Kim Deal went on to form the Breeders and the Amps, and Joey Santiago formed the Martinis with his wife.
The Pixies reunited in 2004.
