The American Music Awards will air live on ABC tonight, where country sensation Taylor Swift will look to build on her impressive four-trophy showing at last week's CMA Awards.
Swift leads the field with six nominations, followed by Michael Jackson with five, rapper Eminem's four, and Lady Gaga (watch video below), the Black Eyed Peas and Kings of Leon each getting three nods.
Confirmed performers include Janet Jackson (opening the show), Rihanna, Whitney Houston, Eminem, Lady Gaga, Green Day, Carrie Underwood, Jay-Z, Shakira, Keith Urban, Mary J Blige, Kelly Clarkson, Daughtry, The Black Eyed Peas, Jennifer Lopez, Alicia Keys, and Adam Lambert (closing the show).
The AMAs use sales and radio airplay to determine their nominees, with winners determined by an online fan vote. This is in contrast to the Grammy Awards, which are industry voted.
The American Music Awards air live on ABC for the east coast, and will be held at the Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles.
