Latest CD release by the Toluenes

The Toluenes' latest CD -- Cervezas, Senoritas, Etc., Etc.

I recently got the opportunity to preview the latest CD offering by the Toluenes, recorded right here in Nashville, entitled Cervezas, Senoritas, Etc., Etc.

The release date is scheduled for tomorrow, May 18th, but my friend Jamon Scott--lead vocalist for the group--made sure I got to hear it before then.

The CD is fresh and clear. Not quite sparse in it's musical production, but very tasteful and uncluttered. Not exactly what one might expect from a duo whose musical roots include Americana, Country and Rock.

Lead guitarist Dave Flint, who became part of the Toluenes after the departure of Dan Allen Crawley last fall, shows  both tastefulness and accomplished technique, as he traverses through the music, sometimes keeping pace with Jamon's vocals and sometimes answering them. Never once on the whole CD do I hear him overpower the lyrics or the mood of the songs, like many lead guitarists are tempted to do.

I have to admit, that ever since I first met Jamon--back in the early days of the Play It Again Jam--I have enjoyed both listening to and playing along with his songs. So, it's easy for me to enjoy this collection of his latest works. On this compilation, Jamon Scott has solo writing credits on all but two songs. For those he is listed as co-writer.

While listening to the CD for the first time, there were moments I thought I heard influences such as Jackson Brown and Jimmy Buffet, but then--just as quickly--I found myself listening to something fresh and new. It's a pleasure for this old guitarist to be taken for that kind of ride, for a change; especially in this world of cookie-cutter music.

For a special treat to music-lovers of all genres, I recommend this simplistic, yet engaging new chapter in the musical works of The Toluenes.
