The Warning Sign, an EP by Orange County four-piece band Stereofix, begins with "A Day without You." With its high energy level, distorted guitars, and driving drums, this is a good intro to what the band is all about. In short, this is a band that plays the same sort of rock that fills arenas at every U2 show. There is no better example than the title track whose bass line is reminiscent of "New Year's Day." In fact, Ray Alexander's vocal style seems influenced by Bono.
This is a very clean EP. The recording quality is excellent and it is a great sample of Stereofix's energetic modern rock sound. "Save it for the Brokenhearted" is as radio-ready a song as I have heard recently. This song could easily be a staple on modern rock radio. I fully expect to hear this band mentioned or nominated for the 2010 Orange County Music Awards. If you've been looking for some new modern rock, this is a good place to start. The only thing you may find disappointing is that the EP contains only six songs.
Also, if you are a fan of the band, be sure to check it out this month at The Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa, where they will have a residency with shows on the 7th, 21st, and 28th. The Warning Sign is available on CDBaby.
