For a lot of folks, this is just another week in November, the week before Thanksgiving. But for one group of college football fans, and one band, this is the best week of the year. Why is that? Because this is the week leading up to the Ohio State-Michigan football game also known by Columbus punk band Dead Schembechlers as Hate Michigan Week.
You might say that Dead Schembechlers has found a niche. And you would be right to say so. The niche this band has found is the rivalry between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Michigan Wolverines. And Dead Schembechlers is all about exposing the International Wolverine Conspiracy with songs like "Bomb Ann Arbor Now" and "Rodriguez is a Weasel."
Normally, the band performs hate rallies in the week leading up to The Game. Lead singer Bo Biafra would normally be hyping up those hate rallies and singing to the folks of Columbus and Ann Arbor. This, however is not the case this year. The Inglourious Buckeyes tour has been cancelled so Biafra can carry the message of hate to Buckeyes fans directly from Woody Hayes himself. You see, the Buckeyes have clinched a berth in the Rose Bowl, and Biafra fears that Buckeyes fans are less focused on the maize and blue because of the success of reaching the Rose Bowl.
So, to all Buckeyes everywhere, let me resound Biafra's message. Yes, a Rose Bowl berth is nice, but let's not lose sight of The Game. Put on your Dead Schembechlers CDs (Warning: the CDs are not for the kids) and blare the music out the windows for everyone to hear. Let Bo Biafra and the rest of Buckeye Nation know that you have not lost sight of the fact that a truly successful Buckeyes season includes a win over that team up north .
