Dropping A Popped Locket

Jay Spizzy of Dropping A Popped Locket

Remember that scene in Back to the Future where they're at the school dance and that injured guitar player Marvin calls his cousin, Chuck Berry, and says, "You know that new sound you're looking for? Well, listen to this!" Then Chuck hears Marty McFly wailing on "Johnny B. Goode," a song which Chuck Berry would go on to write in the future? Well pretend I'm Marvin and you're Chuck, and this article is the phone call, because I totally just stumbled on the new sound you're looking for. And this time it doesn't involve a mind-bending time paradox.

Dropping A Popped Locket's music is sometimes called crunkscreamo, which seems like as good a word as any to describe their mix of smooth auto-tuned vocals à la T-Pain with layered screams that channel both Lil' Jon and an endless array of mediocre screamo bands.  Picture mixing a band like Fall Out Boy to Travis Barker's Expensive Taste project and ending up with something that's perfect for bumping in the ride while crusing the block with your crew on your way to see the Casualties at the Warped Tour.

DAPL's hypnotic tracks induce intense head-nodding that unites everyone scene snobsters and club divas, college frat boys and screamo indie rock kids.

It's baggy meets skin tight and it's a sound which nobody can deny. Which nobody can deny, which nobody can deny.

This all goes to show you really have no idea who's living next door to you until you go snopping around. and DAPL have created their own empire of die hard fans all from the comfort of their apartments. No expensive studio fees, no radio airplay political red tape holding them back. Just musicians making music on their own terms and sharing it with millions of people over the internet from the comfort of their own living space.

It's comforting to find that good local music is being supported. I completely agree that this is the sound of the future and can't wait 'til even more people enjoy the sounds of DAPL and DDC. Nice job :]
