The Watermarks have steadily built an international audience due to their unique sound and their willingness to explore the potential of social networking in all of its forms. While the Houston-based band maintains a strong internet presence on all relevant sites, it was on Twitter that they formed their most recent partnership with independent filmmaker Angelo Bell, director of the critically acclaimed romantic comedy, “Broken Hearts Club.”
Angelo first made contact with The Watermarks’ Cesar Inserny during the planning of his upcoming film, “Resurrection of Serious Rogers,” currently in production. Cesar explains, “it all started when Angelo was asking on Twitter if anyone knew of an indie rock band that could donate t-shirts to use in the film. I actually didn’t read his post, but someone told him to ask me, so he did.” Cesar thought it was a great idea - except for the fact that The Watermarks have never actually had any t-shirts. Over the next couple of days, he designed a shirt and used a print-to-order service online to have three shirts made.
What began as a ‘product placement’ opportunity to have the band’s t-shirts worn by some ‘bad ass girls’ with guns, became even better when the director chose to use one of the band’s songs. “I chose ‘Fast Song,’ explains Bell, “because of its driving, furious beat (industrial meets rock), which matches the cinematic intensity I plan to employ with the scene.” Describing the action in the scene featuring The Watermarks' music and extremely rare t-shirts, Bell says, “the nemesis, Vanity (played by Nancy P. Corbo) makes a phone call to her group known as The B.A.G. (Bad Ass Girls). Vanity meets with Primo (Jennifer Waugh) and Halley (Tisha Rivera) to prep them for their next assignment, which is to kill Serious Rogers (Cooper Harris).”
