Alanis Morrissette and Ani DiFranco appearing on new PBS program

Live From The Artists Den cd.

When it comes to live music, the concert experience is not only about the music. The venue can play a significant role as well and often inspire an artist to give their best performance.

The entertainment company known as The Artists Den first began to take this into account in 2004 by presenting concerts in unique nontraditional venues around the world. What began as a series of living room concerts in private homes has become a series of memorable performances in some of the most interesting and unexpected locations and is now making it’s way to television as the series, Live from The Artists Den. The invitation-only concerts include interviews with the artists and insights regarding the venues chosen, as each artist decides where to perform. The artists often put together special set lists featuring new material and songs they rarely play.

Alanis Morrissette performs on the first one-hour episode this Saturday with a performance at Judson Memorial Church, a Lombardo-Romanesque structure built in 1890 and located in New York City’s Greenwich Village. Filmed in high definition, upcoming shows will include Raphael Saadiq at the Harvard Club in Boston; Ani Difranco at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and The Hold Steady at the Old Emigrant Savings Bank Building in New York.

The first season of Live from The Artists Den will premiere this Saturday, March 21 at 11 pm on Houston PBS channel 8. The series has already begun airing on KUHT channel 8.2 where it can be seen on Saturdays at 9 pm. A cd featuring tracks from the current season is available now on iTunes and at Barnes & Noble
