Sept Tosco House Party filled with musical talent

John Tosco hosts the Tosco House Party

The first Wednesday of each month features a unique open mic night at the Evening Muse hosted by John Tosco.  The event is known as the Tosco House Party and is a tradition that goes back many years and has blossomed into many things including The Tosco Music Party hosted three times a year at the 1,000 seat Halton Theatre at the CPCC downtown campus as well as the annual Beatles tribute night(s) at Spirit Square.  But I digress,,,

While there are several open mic nights around Charlotte which can be filled with budding artists and sometimes be a little hectic, the unique approach used by John is focused on audience participation and artist relaxation.

As an ice-breaker John leads a 30 minute sing-along to loosen the participants having a little fun.  The intimate setting allows for the musicians and music fans to get to know each other a little better and share the highlights of what is happening with their art.  Last nights House Party featured seven talented artists/duo's which provided an opportunity for each to perform a couple of tunes.

  1. Kevin Marshall performed a couple of tunes that he is working to put out on Demo's.
  2. Mattie Schuler, a talented 14 year old singer-songwriter from Providence High School, shared her vocal skills with an emotive rendition of a song she has been working on.
  3. Drew & Jimmie, known as Porch Dog, performed a couple of original songs written by Drew.
  4. The Cloer's - John and Cate - shared their songwriting talents on their two songs as well as a third during an encore performance requested by John at the end of the evening.  As for Cate, damn that girl can sing!
  5. Justin Taylor joined the talented lineup as well sharing two of his emotive ballads and followed them with an upbeat rendition of Cheesy Love Song.
  6. Eric Newton who recently came to Charlotte from Virginia serenaded the crowd with a coupel of tunes with a hint of country lining.
  7. Ralph Husband put on  a demonstration of guitar playing prowess as the anchor performer of the open mic night.

Special thanks to the musicians who shared of themselves on this fine evening of music and entertainment.  A few images of their performance can be seen here.

Cheers,

Monty
