NoDa gallery crawl featured art at the Evening Muse and free live music at the Neighborhood Theatre

Michele Ruge - featured artist @ the Evening Muse

The first friday of each month features what is affectionately known as the Gallery Crawl in the NoDa arts district of Charlotte.  The area is located basically at the corner of North Davidson and 36th street, but stretches for several blocks in each direction.  Art, music, food and drink are featured at several establishments within the area and is generally free of charge - its up to the patrons to recognize the artists for their value.

On this night the Evening Muse featured several musicians with South African singer-songwriter Justin Taylor kicking things off at 8 PM.

On the art-deco wall at the Evening Muse, the works of local artist/painter Michele Ruge are this months feature.  The art will be on display through September so please take the time to review, admire and/or purchase a piece for your home.  Supporting local artisans is what the Gallery Crawl is all about and is a primary mission of the NoDa district.

Ari Picker - composer & Leader - Lost In The Trees

While several establishments had live music, the highlight of the night was the free show at The Neighborhood Theatre.  The Chapel Hill based band, Lost In The Trees, performed a memorable set of intriguing music.  An orchestra in arrangement and indie pop acoustic band in sound, this ensemble of talented musicians perfomed beautifully the arrangements of composer and band leader Ari Picker.  The blend of instruments featured violin & viola, percussions, accordion, trombone, acoustic guitar, bass guitar, and french horn.  This richness of instrumental tone combined with the many voices of the band produced a riveting and harmonious melody that made folks stand up and dance, or at least sway to the stimulus.

Rodney Lanier leads The Sea Of Cortez

The feature act of the night at the Neighborhood Theatre was local Charlotte instrumentalists - Sea Of Cortez.  Featuring an eclectic arrangement of instruments this group of talented musicians produce a sound that is easy to listen to and soothing to the mind.  Consisting of everything from accordion to electric guitar to organ, bass and percussions, the technical arrangement of the music resulted in an energy flow that relaxed the soul.

Keep your eye on out here for a heads up on future performances of this group.

The September NoDa Gallery crawl was yet another success in a long line of rewarding nights as the good people of Charlotte enjoyed eclectic art, food and music in the galleries, shops, restaraunts and music venues of NoDa.

Cheers,
