“Due to a technical glitch beyond our control” – don’t ya hate it when that happens!! People packed into the Evening Muse for gogoPilot's release of “The further it goes; the farther it is” Friday night – expecting and receiving a great performance from gogoPilot along with opener and collaborator, Reeve Coobs.
Having heard Reeve Coobs perform a couple of times in the past it has mostly been as part of a group of singers or as backup vocals with gogoPilot. Tonight’s solo gig as opener for gogoPilot was a performance which will not soon be forgotten. Reeve’s first couple of tunes held the “genie” in check with muted and tempered vocals. Then something transformational happened! Reeve let the genie out of the bottle and showed a powerful vocal ability with range, depth and emotion unlike anything I’ve heard her let loose in the past. As she showered the audience with dominant dynamic vocals, it was truly an OMG moment. This was not lost on the full house at the Evening Muse either as the emotions of the audience were aroused and busting at the seams before the song was over and the crowd let loose as the song came to a close! A couple of songs later, Reeve once again impressed the audience with a powerful, confident, rangeful, crisp, melodic vocal demonstration highlighting her capabilities as a vocal soloist! A wonderful performance Reeve!
A paragraph from a gogoPilot article earlier this month – “Keep in mind that the date of this interview is Nov 17th, the CD release and celebration has been scheduled for the 27th, and this interview is being held at the 34th & Hudson studio while the final mixing is being completed! Jeff is brimming with confidence that all is well and the dates are not in jeopardy!” The band will be mailing a copy of the CD to those who pre-purchased one at the CD release party. Jeff shared that there was a “harmonic distortion” on the pressed CD’s - the result of a technical glitch during the burning. You could tell Jeff wasn’t happy about it, but that’s all he wanted to say about that. A demo sampler was provided until then.
Performing the songs from the new CD “The further it goes; the farther it is”, gogoPilot also rocked a few tunes from their 2nd album “Manana, mon frere”. While “Manana, mon frere” was a fabulous album full of well written songs, this new album seems to top it. The songs which have been released are catchy Pop-rock tunes which have been well mixed in the studio highlighting the writing style that Jeff Williams brings to the table. “Tell you right now”, “One Step Away”, “Best Day Of Your Life” - all three are outstanding songs. If these are examples of the rest, then this will be one hell of an addition to your music collection.
gogoPilot put on a wonderful performance for their fans who filled the Evening Muse on this Friday night. Glad I was there to be a part of it!
Keepin’ it Live….
