Girls Guns & Glory @ The Evening Muse - 09/25/09
Friday night the Boston based Americana country band Girls, Guns & Glory (GGG) returned to Charlotte's Evening Muse. They've been busy since last here in February, working on some new material in preparation for spending the winter months in the studio. Lead singer Ward Hayden said they were trying out some of their new material while out on the road this time to gauge how the audience responds. The latest work - Inverted Valentine - will be difficult to top.
On this night the band had changed things a little with new bassist Justin Maxwell on the electric upright bass. Justin really had double duty as the band has cut the drummer from the touring line-up and thus depend on Justin's nimble fingers to make up the difference in the beat. And it worked quite well.
The workhorse of the group is Colt Thompson. Colt plays a smokin hot lead guitar. With blinding finger work Colt coaxes sweet sound from his instrument and sets a blistering pace for the band during their more bluesy numbers.
On more than one occasion GGG had the audience up and dancing. If you love old school country with an Americana flare, this is a band to keep an eye out for in hoping they return to Charlotte in the spring.

GGG were supported tonight by the local Charlotte Americana rock band Evelynn Rose - photos of their show.
Seein' it live...
