RUSH, Tom Cochrane, Gordon Lightfoot, and Stompin' Tom Connors were among those who picked up awards at the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada’s 20th annual awards gala last night ((11/23).
Hard rockin’ Toronto power trio RUSH, fresh from another mega successful year of touring and the release of "Snakes & Arrows Live," won the international achievement honour.
Llynn, MB native Tom Cochrane picked up 5 awards for songs that were played 100,000 times on Canadian radio in 2008 for "Big League," "Boy Inside the Man," "I Wish You Well," "No Regrets," and "Lunatic Fringe," which he released in 1981.
Legendary singer songwriter Gordon Lightfoot picked up an award for "Race Among the Ruins" and the prolific St John’s, NB native Stompin’ Tom Connors picked up the pretigious Lifetime Achievement Award for his body of work which includes Canadian classics like “Bud the Spud” and “The Good Old Hockey Game.”
SOCAN will recognize francophone music creators at a gala in Montreal on Nov. 24.
