Janelle Monáe
Grammy Award nominated urban alternative singer/songwriter, Janelle Monáe is set to open for No Doubt on June 19 at Darien Lake. The Kansas City native will bring her unqiue mix of rock, alternative, soul, electronica, afropunk, and furtistic music to an unsuspecting crowd.
Monáe believes that music is in art form which has the potential to change the world. As she explored her own artistic world, Monáe gathered a group of like-minded artists and started the Wondaland Arts Society.
In 2007, Monáe had plans to release her first solo album, a concept album in four parts (which she called suites) that was supposed to be released exclusively through her website. Her plans changed after signing with Sean "Diddy Comb's Bad Boy Records later than year. In August of 2008, Bad Boy Recods released Metropolis: The Chase Suite (Special edition).
At the beginning of this year Monáe had hoped to release Metroplis Suites II and III, but the release was postponed. The singer received a Grammy nomination for her song Many Moons in Best Urban / Alternative Performance. Monáe's latest single Open Happiness was featured on the season finale of American Idol last month.
The singer recently finished up a small string of shows out west with Erykah Badu. An appearence at Bonnaroo in Manchester, Tennessee is scheduled for today.
Janelle Monáe is the opening act for Paramore and No Doubt on June 19. Tickets range in price from $80 General Admission (pit) tickets to $10 for the lawn. For each top level ticket purchased you will also get the entire No Doubt music catalog for free via download. Tickets are available through Live Nation.
The singer's six show stint on No Doubt's tour begins at Darien Lake and will end on June 27 in Wantagh, New York. The following day she will perform at Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. An appearence at the Essence Music Festival is scheduled for the 4th of July in New Orleans.
