Gladys Knight, above, plays Wolf Trap this Sunday, July 5th at 8 PM
You want to keep that Fourth of July weekend going non-stop? Well here’s something for you that I know you don’t want to miss.
The other “Ms. Motown,” Gladys Knight is set to play Wolf Trap on Sunday night. Hence, you can enjoy all of the free Fourth of July festivities in our nation’s capital Saturday, then Sunday night head on down I-66 to Wolf Trap and catch the queen herself.
I doubt if she’s bringing the Pips with her as the concerts is billed as just Gladys Knight.
Okay, just reminisce to “I Heard It Through The Grapevine,” “Midnight Train To Georgia,” and “Love Overboard.”
Since we are memorializing the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, and his passing last week, when I think of Michael’s last days or years, I think of Gladys Knight.
In 2005, a BET reporter interviewed Ms. Knight and asked her about the state of Michael Jackson as he was withering through his final court trial. Gladys Knight didn’t respond that Michael did it or didn’t do, she just simply stated that “Michael is tired.”
And he really was! I don’t think many heard Ms. Knight, but she was expressing a plea to let the King rest. For that, I will always be grateful to Ms. Knight.
But back to the concert! You don’t want to miss Gladys Knight. In fact, anytime she is in the Washington area, locals should always take in what I call “Motown royalty.” So, see you at Wolf Trap Sunday night. I know she is going to tear it up.
