Muppets Bohemian Rhapsody is nominated for a Webby Award

The Muppets' version of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" has become a viral sensation on YouTube.

The Muppets’ version of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” has been nominated for two 2010 Webby Awards. The video is up for awards in the “Viral” and “Music” categories in the Webby Online Film & Video category. While the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences chooses the winners of the Webby Awards, Internet users will have their say as well. Anyone can vote for the concurrent People’s Voice Awards between now and April 29. The winners of both the Webby and People’s Voice Awards will be announced on May 4, 2010.

Released on November 23, 2009, “Bohemian Rhapsody” rapidly became a YouTube sensation, garnering over 10 million views in just a few weeks. To date, almost 14 million viewers have seen Gonzo, Animal, a choir of penguins, and many more pay homage to the great Queen ballad. Other viral videos, including Beaker’s “Dust in the Wind” and the most recent, “Stand by Me”, followed in the viral footsteps of “Bohemian Rhapsody” over the ensuing months.

In the “Viral” category, the Muppets face several strong challengers. As the name of the category suggests, all of these videos have received millions of views over the past year, and all have fans. The other nominees in the category are “Auto-Tune the News,” “David After Dentist”, “Lindsay Lohan’s E-Harmony Profile,” and “Love Project Music Video.”

The competition in the “Music” category is just as strong. Along with “Bohemian Rhapsody,” nominees include “$99 Music Videos”, “Don’t Move Here,” “Live from Daryl’s House,” and “Pitchfork TV”.

You can vote for the Muppets (or any other nominated video and website) at the People’s Voice Awards voting page.
