So far, there's 20 options for Mayor of Toronto, and there's still months left until we go to the ballot box. While some candidates are virtual unknowns, there's a good selection of high-profile hopefuls, with more expected. The list currently includes:
- Rocco Achampong: Achampong had started a Twitter feed, "MayorRoc", but it's no more. Oddly, his Facebook profile publicly lists that he's a fan of rival candidate Rocco Rossi. Perhaps it's the name?
- Don Andrews: Described by Wikipedia as a perennial mayoral candidate, Andrews is leader of the neo-Nazi Nationalist Party of Canada. His best runs were versus David Crombie, where he placed second; these years, very few ran for Mayor, as Crombie was a considered shoe-in.
- George Babula
- Andrew Barton: Barton runs a blog and Twitters.
- Douglas Campbell: Campbell has run multiple times for Mayor of North York or Toronto, and leader of the national and provincial NDP parties.
- Mark Cidade: On the topic of Education, Cidade has commented online: "Kids can be so DUMB sometimes. Adults are even WORSE! Come on people. Smarten up!"
- Stephen Feek
- Baquie Ghazi: In 2006, Ghazi received 3.3% of the vote from Ward 28, Toronto Centre. Incumbent Pam McConnell won the ward.
- Howard Gomberg
- Monowar Hossian: Originally from India, Hossian has run twice for mayor, and once for the Toronto District School Board. He ran his 2006 campaign for Mayor under an anti-psychologists and anti-laboratory experimentation platform.
- John Letonja: Letonja's platform so far seems to focus on fiscal responsibility.
- Colin Magee
- Giorgio Mammoliti: An NDP MPP from 1990 to 1995, and city councillor since 1995, who has recently served on David Miller's Executive Committee. His initial headline-grabbing platform announcement includes creating a casino, municipal lottery, reversing tax increases, and creating a red light district.
- Joseph Pampena: A public relations agent, his platform includes raising city revenue by selling name rights to pools and recreational facilities.
- Joe Pantalone: A councillor for almost 30 years, he's been Deputy Mayor under David Miller. He plans to use the Mayor's office to "to solidify and protect our services".
- Rocco Rossi: Rossi has resigned as Liberal Party of Canada's policy director, to run for mayor. His platform includes selling off city assets including Toronto Hydro.
- George Smitherman: The Liberal MPP for Toronto Centre, Smitherman resigned as Deputy Premier of Ontario to run for mayor's office.
- Mark State: Last election, State received just 194 votes for Mayor, placing last. A retired engineer, he hopes to bring Toronto in economic self-sufficiency.
- Sarah Thomson: CEO and founder of Women's Post, she previously ran for city council in Hamilton. She hopes to turn Toronto into the arts, cultural, and economic capital of North America, while capturing Toronto's civic spirit.
- Sonny Yeung: Yeung has run twice in Ward 41, unsuccessfully. Fiscally conservative, he has a Bachelor of Commerce degree, with a Minor in Finance.
Ange Maniccia registered January 4, and withdrew the next day.

Comments
Thanks, Nicholas, for mentioning my candidacy for Mayor.
Although I ran for the position in the previous election, I did not campaign for the post, and only friends and relatives voted for me. Hence the 194 votes.
Unlike the winner of that election, David Miller, our outgoing Mayor, who received 300,000 votes, I am able to claim with a smile that every one of my voters knew me personally.
In this election, however, things are different, and I am offering a genuine campaign (--perhaps I may even top the 200-mark by one or two votes this time).
Seriously, if your readers wish to click on your link to my website above, they might be pleasantly surprised at the depth and pragmatic tone of my --authentic-- platforms, and even alert their Toronto friends to check me out as a sincere contender for the office this time around.
Your link to my comment is broken.
