NEW CD'S, TUES., SEPT 7:
SARA BAREILLES: "KALEIDOSCOPE HEART": on Epic. Her second album of piano-influenced jazz/rock. Sara is bringing her stage show to the Pantages Theater, 7th-Hennepin Av., downtown Mpls., Tues., Nov. 2, 7:30 p.m., $36.85. www.sarabmusic.com
JERRY LEE LEWIS: "MEAN OLD MAN": on Verve. Single disc and Deluxe Ed. w/9 bonus trax. The guest list for this release reads like a who's who of music: Ron Wood, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Kid Rock, Slash, Eric Clapton, Sheryl Crow, Shelby Lynne, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, John Fogerty, Ringo Starr, Gillian Welch, Kris Kristofferson, Solomon Burke, Nils Lofgren, John Mayer and Tim McGraw. You can't go too far wrong listening to this stuff. Clearly, the Deluxe Ed. is the way to go and Best Buy will likely have the best week-of-release price. Lewis has always had an edgy charm about him to go with his edgy past. This is more of a culmination of the friendships that have endured over his career. Lewis is gearing up for a tour of Europe and has not announced dates as yet. Check his website for that info when it comes available. www.jerryleelewis.com
BACHMAN AND TURNER: BACHMAN AND TURNER: on RBE. This is their first album together in 20 years since Bachman-Turner Overdrive disbanded. This sounds pretty close to what they did before, perhaps not as energetic but still heavy on bass and guitar. They are intending to tour although only 2 dates have been set so far. Bachman's brother has sued them since the 'Bachman-Turner' logo/listing is apparently too close to 'Bachman-Turner Overdrive'. What else is new? If you can't or won't perform any more, sue. It's the American way. All that aside, look for them to go on the road more extensively in support of this cd. www.bachmanandturner.com (There's not much on this website yet and it's slow to respond).
SPECIAL NOTE: Get ready, folks. Labor Day is upon us and that's the new unofficial start of the Christmas shopping season. The weeks ahead will be highlighted by new releases by Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Elvis Costello and an expensive re-release by David Bowie. There will also be a bevy of DVD releases which will likely include the Director's Cut of "Avatar", the new version with additional footage. It will be in theatres soon but should be on disc by Christmas. This will be a very expensive season as all the studios want to take your money from you. Please make sure you get your money's worth and stay tuned to this page for help determining that what you get is what you want. Thank you!
