'He-Man' enlists 'Kung Fu Panda' director for reboot

Warner Brothers has tapped Kung Fu Panda director John Stevenson to helm '80s reboot He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. Despite rumors that the studio terminated the project, The Hollywood Reporter states Joel Silver's Silver Pictures production company will produce the movie, along with Mattel's Barry Waldo (of course) in on board as executive producer.
"Masters of the Universe was a billion-dollar franchise for us in the '80s," said Waldo. "There are so few of those in the vault; it's one of the crown jewels."
Justin Marks has penned the first draft script, entitled Grayskull.
Based on the iconic '80s toy line from Mattel,
He-Man focuses on the adventures of a Conan-esque sword and sandals adventurer in the magical-land of Eternia. He battles the evil Skeletor on a day-to-day basis. The 1987 big-screen version of
Masters of the Universe, cast Dolph Lundgren in the role of He-Man with
Frost/Nixon star Frank Langella as Skeletor.
