It was an exciting evening at the 2009 Atlanta Film Festival’s opening night, complete with Hollywood celebs walking the red carpet and the world premiere of The People Speak. The film’s cast and crew begin arriving at the Rialto Center for the Arts around 6:30 p.m. From actors (Josh Brolin and Michael Ealy) to musicians (The Black Crowes’ Rich Robinson) to filmmakers (producer Chris Moore) and Howard Zinn himself, everyone was in great spirits.
There was a real sense of enthusiasm and excitement that was fabulous to see---the talent was truly passionate about The People Speak and seemed thrilled to be at the Atlanta Film Festival. No egos on display and lots of joking around, which was certainly refreshing. Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder was a disappointing red carpet no-show (yes, I'm a hopeless fanboy), though he compensated with a memorable appearance at the post-screening Q&A.
Here’s a look at some red carpet pics from the 2009 Atlanta Film Festival opening night gala, along with a few snaps from The People Speak post-screening Q&A:

Howard Zinn, historian and author of The People's History of the United States, the inspiration for The People speak

Rich Robinson (guitarist, The Black Crowes), who along with brother Chris performs a cover of Neil Young's "Ohio" in the film

Chris Moore, producer of The People Speak, as well as Good Will Hunting, American Pie and Project Greenlight

Josh Brolin, fresh off his Milk Oscar nomination, reprises a Mark Twain essay (among other speeches) in The People Speak

More Q&A: Chris Moore answers a question as Atlanta Film Festival Executive Director Gabe Wardell (far left) looks on.
