Law and Order:CI Vincent D'onofrio Kathryn Erbe. A deafening silence

In this cast photo, only one actor is left standing. Photo/Publicity still.

Once again this week the silence is deafening from Camp D'onofrio and Camp Erbe.

Yesterday was spent making phone calls, emailing and surfing the web for any sign of new news, any news or comment from the above camps.....nothing.

First phone call of this morning was to Bill Butler's office at the Gersh Agency in New York, they represent Kathryn. I called them last week and received a curt "no comment." The call today went to the same office, the same person answered. I asked several questions about...announcements forthcoming, New films, Negotiations, the jars of fluff fans are sending to USA. I got in answer "No Comment" "No Comment" "No Comment" and "We had a meeting and were told to say 'No Comment'". No fear rep at Butler's office, you did your job well.

Now we know something is difinitely  up or there would be something more than "No Comment," there would be, "an annoucement is coming," or something similar. Why not just say Kathryn is moving on, whatever.

Since there was a meeting where people were told to say "No Comment," one must logically think there is something Gersh agency doesn't want to talk about. The big secret is probably negotiations are ongoing.

Camp D'onofrio isn't even saying no comment. After several hours of work, there is nothing to show for it except some emails in my "sent" film. No calls returned, no emails answered.

Something is afoot and there is no way to find out exactly what it is

The grassroots effort to keep the popular set of detectives is still raging. This loyal bunch of fans are tenacious and want their show left intact.

Yahoo TV has published an article in it's blog section asking "Who should replace Vincent D'onofrio?". They are uninformed about the "party line." The one thing we do know is that USA/NBC/U has released a statement to the effect that it will be Jeff Goldblum who will be the only male detective next season. Or...could this be a planted piece of disinformation?

Thank you very much for your efforts to find information, Terra. We also find the deafening silence telling. We are committed to making our voices heard. Both Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe deserve more respect from the network, and we will not give up our show without making our feelings known. We want Goren and Eames.

Thanks so much for the update! Yes, the silence is deafening. If Mr. D'Onofrio and Ms. Erbe wanted out of their roles, surely they would have made a statement they weren't coming back many months ago.
USA Network, who treated the show so well when they acquired it, dropped the ball after its first season in their possession:
? They postponed Season 8 from fall to winter to spring, losing valuable fan support.
? They pushed Jeff Goldblum to the forefront in Season 8 promotions alienating the loyal viewers of many years and then introduced a lighter tone to the series.
? They aired Season 8 so badly out of filming order that not even the dedicated viewers could recognize the gradual and beautiful recovery of Robert Goren. Some week’s he had a beard, the next it would be gone, only to return again the next episode. USA did Vincent D’Onofrio a huge disservice here.
? And now it appears USA has offered insulting salary reductions to D’Onofrio and Erbe.
    Fans are not happy.

I'm hoping the silence is because USA Network is listening to LOCI fans and renegotiating with our two stars, Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe. I think it's only fair that USA Network gives them the opportunity to give the characters of Goren and Eames a full season to finish their stories. They deserve that respect for the hard work they have done on LOCI. There never has been, nor will there ever be, a show like it.

Thank you for this article Terra. We appreciate your efforts.

Thanks so much for trying again asking questions. The no comment reaction of Kathryn Erbe and the no answering of Vincent D'Onofrio is very curious.

I would understand to 100% when they don't want to continue with CI but they would say it. Criminal Intent is/was for a long time their work. They would say thanks to the Network and also to the fans.

But that silence...there must be someone in the background with much tape. Someone who doesn't want to publish the truth.

But the fans want to know the truth. It would be much more easy to understand these huges changes of their favored tv show.

Bobby + Alex = Criminal Intent

My concern is, what if the network is going to try to appeal to the fans by offering to keep Kate and Eric on the show? Would the fans remain with the new version with them, but without Vince? With her representatives saying nothing but no comment they are playing it smart by not angering the brass. If they give a premature goodbye, as Vincent seemed to do they could end up burning their bridges. I leave when Vince leaves, if there is a deal to keep Kate and Eric, or just Kate, I would still not stay, the show would be too different as a Monk version. How do the rest of you feel, stay or not?

Great article! Basically, they're trying to turn L&O:CI into a Psych or Burn Notice. Why? Who wants another lame, silly show like them? I love watching serious detective shows and D'onofrio and Erbe delivered in every episode they were in. I've been a loyal fan since the second season and hoped to enjoy more in the future with these two great characters. Hopefully something can be done, because I hate seeing these actors/characters treated in this manner. It's really awful!

Thank you for your efforts! A watered down CI is not what the fans want. I think it's a pity that NBCU is doing a huge disservice to the actors, the show and last but not least, the fans. Suzanne outlined (beautifully) why Season 8 was not quite right. It boggles the mind. My best friend works for NBCU and she is leaving. I've been listing all of our complaints to her and she has said, "You are preaching to the choir."

Thanks so much fpr pursuing this story and keeping us informed of the deafening silence. Hopefully, that is the sound of the network nitwits trying to back away from the pile they stepped in when they tried to pull a fast one on us!

Thank you for continuing to follow the silence. Maybe fans should contact the advertisers who pay for the time that supports the show, since the company is ignoring the fan base that the advertisers pay to access.

I agree completely. V. D'Onofrio and K. Erbe have been treated horribly after all they have given to these characters and this show. I will boycott anything and everything if they go through with this. Justice for these two talented people
