Movies for the weekend of September 10th

A batch of new movies comes forth for your viewing pleasure.  A fourth installment to the Resident Evil series, Resident Evil: Afterlife, and a home camera virginity experience. Also, Joaquin Phoenix is still doing movies? What? I thought he was a rapper, wait bum, wait what is he now?

First off is Resident Evil: Afterlife, this being the fourth installment in the series and continues the story line starring Milla Jovovich as Alice.  Ali Larter returns from the third film, but the interesting tid bit is the return of Sienna Guillory as the sultry Jill Valentine from the second film, Resident Evil: Apocalypse. This film filled with action and some fairly decent 3-D effects, although I still believe 3-D is a gimmick and only was truly good for one film (you can guess what one). The action and strangeness should keep you entertained as was I. Don’t expect an Oscar winning film, but this film does improve on the poor factors from the last film and is some fun on the screen. This movie is not the best in the series, but better than the last installment and fairly enjoyable.

At what price does our virginity cost? The Virginity Hit takes an inside look at a high school male’s opportunity to lose his V-card. His best friend tries to put the act on film, but his girlfriend soon learns of the sticky situation and walks out on him. The youth that swarms this film about sex and the coming-to-age has a slight messy feel. Looking at popularity growth within the last few weeks, this movie might be a huge hit, or rather a big disappointment. There are a few laughs and if you have nothing else to do, see it.

Joaquin Phoenix is still here ladies and gentleman with a full grungy beard and all.  The absence of Joaquin Phoenix from any real film has been missed. The Academy Award nominee leads this documentary about the a missing year of his life as he tries to go from actor to an aspiring rapper. Rapper really, huh okay sure. The movie is directed by Casey Affleck and is in limited release. Although are you really sad that this is in limited release? No, do we really care enough about Joaquin, not that he isn’t a superb actor, but his silly antics and crazy lifestyle aren’t worth your time. He can’t walk the line with this movie, not even close. I’m Still Here, oh really Mr. Phoenix, you are? Well when you are in something worthwhile then I will remember you, but if I really need to see you I’ll watch you get killed in Gladiator or watch him sing to some classics.
