University of Tampa Professor Tom Garrett had a vision he wanted to get on film, and he found a way to do it.  That vision will transform into a documentary on the largest area of film production in the world.  And it is not the United States people.  For decades, India's film industry has claimed this title.  Ever hear of a little place called Bollywood?  Most people associate Bollywood with the entire India film industry.  However that is not the case.  Bollywood is simply the biggest producer in India, but it does not represent the whole industry.  See, you're learning something already.

As Professor Garrett pointed out in my first meeting with him, films cost money and finding that money is one of the more creative aspects of filmmaking.  Something he continuously preaches to his students.  Garrett only had to look to St. Petersburg, FL and found Elly Friedman.  Friedman, a person best described for having a passion for the arts, generously gave Garrett a grant to help get his documentary going.  With this grant, some of his students will get the invaluable experience of working on a live movie set.  Plus, going on location (India) will better prepare the students as they venture out into this competitive industry.

Since his arrival at the University of Tampa, Garrett has always pushed for a more hands-on curriculum.  Theory can only take on so far in this industry and the good Professor remembers this when he was back in his younger days.  Not too far removed though ;).  Check the related articles in the box to the left to see what other movements Garrett has made during his short time at UT.

Right now, the documentary titled, The Two Sides of Bollywood, will be released in September of this year.  Much like the India film industry, which churns out movies faster than anyone in the world, Garrett will be working hard to make that release date.  As we move closer, we'll hopefully speak with Garrett to see how the film is progressing and talk about his on-location experiences.
