Walt Disney’s studio chief Dick Cook resigned from his post on Friday (a specific reason why has not yet been given), and it seems that this is already creating issues for the studio. Johnny Depp, nearly set to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the fourth “Pirates of the Caribbean” film, is “shocked and very sad” to hear that Cook is leaving Disney. Cook is a good friend of his and he credits him for getting him involved in the “Pirates” movies in the first place.
Depp described Cook to the LA Times as “the sweetest man on the planet and such a gent”, and said, "When things went a little sideways on the first 'Pirates' movie and others at the studio were less than enthusiastic about my interpretation of the character, Dick was there from the first moment. He trusted me.” Now that Cook is gone, Depp doesn’t seem too excited about the next “Pirates” film. "There's a fissure, a crack in my enthusiasm at the moment," he said.
While the future of “Pirates of the Caribbean 4” is now in question, Depp says he is confident that he and Cook will work together again in the future.
