The River Bend Film Festival is still going strong! The official event began Friday night with an introduction by the president of Troma Entertainment, Lloyd Kaufman. Kaufman is also the creator of the 1984 cult classic The Toxic Avenger which screened during the River Bend Film Festival's Thursday night kick-off at Indiana University South Bend.
The evening began with a preview of Harvey Putter and the Ridiculous Premise, directed by River Bend's director and president of Mid-America Filmmakers, Tim Richardson. Harvey Putter is a parody of the Harry Potter movies. Harvey Putter and the Ridiculous Premise is set to premier at the Infinitus Harry Potter Conference July 2010.
Other films that followed were a medley of humorous shorts: Royalty Free, Father and Sister, The Last Page, Walla Walla Wiffle, and the The Alpha and the Mega, an inspiring documentary about mega-churches verses small churches. In the The Alpha and the Mega, director Morgan Mead interviews Michiana's very own Tim Stevens of Granger Community Church.
Saturday night's feature film is Trippin', directed by Devi Snively. Snively attended film school in San Francisco and taught at Notre Dame. According to Snively, after overcoming her fear of horror flicks, including The Wizard of Oz, she began to study and write horror films and is now named one of the 13 Influential Women in Horror History in Horrorblips.
The River Bend Film Festival is screening at The Century Center all day, May 1st and ends at midnight. Tickets are available at the door.
