Trailer Tuesday is a weekly collection of all the past week’s trailers, from Hollywood to the art-house.
Considering the comic talent on screen (Tina Fey, Steve Carell, James Franco and an always welcome supporting turn by Mark Wahlberg), Date Night ought to be more promising. Instead, we are left with what looks like another Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum, Cheaper by the Dozen) movie where a lot of loud things happen with gags too broad for kids in elementary school. Levy really is a younger Chris Columbus, with too much yelling and wackiness for my tastes. The film is set for an April release.
As a big fan of the 1981 original, this remake of Clash of the Titans sells a lot of things in just over a minute. Clearly the scope is big, kinetic and full of ridiculous action. The epic-metal music here may be a bit much and Louis Leterrier movies usually run out of steam 30 minutes in, but count me in on this anyways. The film is set for a March release.
The biggest buzz-getter out of SDCC ’09, Matthew Vaughn’s adaptation of the popular Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. comic book is said to be brutal and bloody. Little of that is seen here in this spoof-like teaser, a PG-13 selling of a hard-R film. Nonetheless, it is far too early to know how this one will turn out. The film is set for an April release.
A very bizarre cast for a pot-comedy, with Susan Sarandon, Tim Blake Nelson (who also writes and directs), Keri Russell and a pair of Edward Nortons. Certainly has the promises of something amusing but it would be nice to see Norton do something great again after the stretch he had from 1996-2002. The film is set for a December release.
In the vein of this year’s Earth, Oceans takes the cameras all around the world, beneath the waters and along the shores of some of the planet’s most beautiful areas. The shots here are extraordinary and this will no doubt be a delight for the eyes. One trip to the cinema per year to see something like this seems about right to me. The film is set for a April release.

Daryl Wein’s indie movie certainly revels in its hipster roots, with clever quips from people in their mid-20s who live in New York. The story centers on a couple trying to keep their normal routines alive while ending their relationship. The premise is simple enough and the acting, particularly by Zoe Lister Jones, is engaging. Could go in any direction in regards to quality. The film currently has no set release date.
What world do we live in that an Adam Sandler movie needs to be promoted seven months before its release? This time out, Sandler, David Spade, Kevin James and Chris Rock all hang out having a good time as we get to watch them talk about the difficulties of being an adult...maybe? As someone who has never liked David Space and actively avoids movies with Rob Schneider, this won’t be on my 2010 must-see list. The film is set for a June release.
It becomes tougher every year to defend romantic comedies. A truly fantastic genre when done well continues to be run through a dull, pre-packaged machine that rolls out good actresses in bland movies. Amy Adams seems to be the latest victim, using her distinct charms for a movie by the writers of Surviving Christmas and Made of Honor. The film is set for a January release.
The true story of a family fighting to find a cure for their suffering children looks to be transformed into a wet piece of melodrama; too bad since it is nice to see Harrison Ford in the non-out-for-vengeance dad role. Could always be good but that January release date leaves me skeptical.
