After the success of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings series, J.R.R. Tolkien fans were left wondering if the prelude to the series, The Hobbit would ever be made. Unfortunately, New Line Cinema and the Tolkien family got into a lawsuit concerning profits from the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Now there is great news! After settling with the Tolkiens for an undisclosed amount, Christopher Tolkien announced that New Line Cinema will proceed with the making of The Hobbit. It will be made into two movies too! Guillermo del Toro will be directing them too!
It will be interesting to see how the new movie will compare with the 1977 animated version which starred the voices of Orson Bean, John Huston, and Otto Preminger.
If the new movie succeeds, can a movie version of The Silmarillion be far behind?

Impossible to make a film about the Silmarillion. It would have to be a series. WAY too much content for even 10 films.
