Ok, it's not the newest Christmas movie, nor is it the best and most logical. Fred Claus, however, is a fun little sleigh ride of a movie.
Vince Vaughn stars as Fred, who is the elder brother of old Saint Nick himself, Santa. He is a ne'er-do-well who winds up in jail and asks his dear old brother to bail him out, which Santa does. However, there is a catch; Fred must help his brother prepare for Christmas.
After being taken to the North Pole, Fred helps his brother out and ultimately, must fly around the world to save the day. Think he'll make it?
This film has eye-popping elaborate sets. The special effects add to the story. The other major plus Fred Claus has is a surprisingly compelling story that deals with family infighting, orphaned children, and ultimately, acceptance.
Vince Vaughn gives a heartfelt performance and is helped by Paul Giamatti as Santa. Kathy Bates and Elizabeth Banks lead an engaging supporting cast and add to the dippy fun.
