YouTube. Everything ends up here. 

YouTube just might be the world's smallest, most popular independent theater chain in current human history. I use it like you all use it. To see the Iraqi dude wing his shoes at George W. Bush, (I had no idea our President was that gawdamn QUICK - W's a trained cobra!) or to watch a gun safety instuctor accidently blast himself in the foot in front of a classroom, or some hayseed cowboy smack around Pauly Shore at a comedy gig in Texas... So it was a big surprise to me that the best Youtube movie that I saw in 2008 didn't involve some evocation of violence or threat - but did involve greased manflesh and aerobic dancing...

Ladies and Gentlemen, without any further preamble - this is the best thing I caught on YouTube this year:

Bodybuilding routines are about the furthest thing from my current existence as it can get. I know that there are bodybuilders on our planet, and that they do compete with each other to win bodybuilding awards. But I absolutely had no idea the effort these towers of buffitude put into their individual routines.

And this guy here... I'm in awe of this guy. Awed by his imagination. By his disjointed, and almost eerily lifelike robot imitation. And finally awed by his explosively flamboyant finale. I've never seen a man go from machine to Carnival Queen so quickly, so efficiently, and so commandingly before this dude. The final minute of this video is a techno-fused celebration of life like no other minute before it.

If David Blade, (the Star of this video) didn't win his bodybuilding contest - he did walk away with YouTube Video of the Year, at least in this sunless corner of the information super-highway...
