Buy-it, rent-it, skip-it: movies on DVD/Blu-ray Tuesday, September 29th

The wonderful Wizard of Oz is available on Blu-ray today!

Not sure which DVD to pull off the new release shelf? Need a new Blu-ray to show off in 1080p? Or maybe you're looking through the new releases on Netflix and don't know what to add to your queue?

You better hope (and can be thankful that) it's cold and wet this week because there are 8 good reasons to stay inside, crash on the couch under your Snuggie, and burn some popcorn:

Monsters vs. Aliens - Rent-it - Great family flick, and especially entertaining in 3D for all ages. If the gross list of stars doing voices and the relentless marketing doesn't entice you, the thumbs-up reviews should.

Away We Go - Rent-it - From the director of American Beauty, Away We Go stars Jim from The Office and Maya from SNL in one of the most sincere films about the ups & downs of relationships of all time.

Brothers Bloom - Rent-it - An unexpectedly great con/caper film not only held up by the award-winning cast but also by the brilliantly offbeat story that feels like a scavenger hunt on film.

Girlfriend Experience - Rent-it - Despite an unsatisfyingly quick ending, this film about a high-priced escort with a boyfriend is an admittedly interesting experiment by director Steven Soderbergh.

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa - Rent-it - The sequel is as good as the first, this time with more familiar voices, double-edged jokes (for adults and children), and interesting plot turns than before. The only complaint is the musical number ("I Like to Move It" by the Crazy Frogs) being a repeat from the first.

Management - Rent-it - A strange and awkward stalker romance that is more uncomfortable to watch than Jennifer Aniston's character seems to be with her stalker Steve Zahn.

Lies & Illusions - Skip-it - Despite familiar faces/names (Christian Slater and Cuba Gooding) this film about "a writer, torn between two lovers who is hunted by spies in search of stolen diamonds" is too much!

Movies re-released on Blu-ray format this week:

The Wizard of Oz - Buy-it - Whether or not you have any desire to watch it now (or anytime soon), The Wizard of Oz is a Technicolor classic that looks and sounds brilliant in HD and will undoubtedly find its way into your Blu-ray player in near future.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) - Rent-it - One of the scariest movies of all-time is the perfect date-movie and will have both jumping off the couch when the chainsaw fires up behind you on your DTS 7.1 speakers.

Snakes on a Plane - Skip-it - Though soon to be considered a "cult classic" (given time), Samuel L. Jackson's Snakes on a Plane is nothing special in 1080p high-def.
