After months of rumors and speculation, it has finally been confirmed that Zac Efron of the High School Musical franchise will star as the lead role in the upcoming live-action Johnny Quest.
The L.A. Times has confirmed that Efron has signed on to play the character based on the 60’s Hannah Barbara cartoon hit. The cartoon series ran between 1964-1965 and made another appearance in 1986-1987. The cartoon was about a boy named Johnny Quest who accompanied his father, Dr. Quest on extraordinary quests in far-off-lands. He was also teamed with muscle man Race Banner, best friend Hadji, and his dog Bandit. The series was a first to use fight scenes in a cartoon series.
According to the L.A. Times, Warner Bros. could possibly change the title to the film itself, avoiding last year's disaster Speed Racer. WB could be changing the name only to avoid any comparisons to the box-office bomb.
There's no word on who might be directing although previous rumors have pegged the team of Andy Fickman and Dwayne Johnson possibly reuniting for the third time after the recent Race to Witch Mountain
