According to Variety, it appears Disney is planning a sequel to the hit movie, Enchanted, which starred Amy Adams, James Marsden, Patrick Dempsey and Susan Sarandon, and earned more than $340 million worldwide from an $85 million budget. Full of memorable music by Alan Menkin (Little Mermaid), the first film was a break out role for Amy Adams, who played Giselle, an animated princess who was banished from her fairy tale world into the live-action streets of New York by an evil witch-queen played by Sarandon. Bill Kelley’s script, expertly enhanced by Adams’ performance, played with the old school Disney princess ideals and how it conflicts with the more cynical, and modern, view of the “happily ever after,” along with the conflicts between the “traditional” and “modern” views of love. His previous script, Blast from the Past, had dealt with similar themes.

The sequel will now be penned by Jessie Nelson (I am Sam) replacing Bill Kelley, who penned the original. Anne Fletcher (The Proposal) is attached to direct, replacing Kevin Lima. Fletcher had a string of hits with Step Up, 27 Dresses and The Proposal, which earned $315 million worldwide for Disney last summer.

Barry Josephson and Barry Sonnenfield will return as producers. Chances are most likely Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey will return as well.

While financially it makes sense, could a sequel really bring back or add to the novelty, music, and performance of the first film?

I hope they bring back Alan Menkin! But, in all honesty, can they really add anything "new" to this film?

I think it's a bad idea to have a sequel. Disney should leave all sequel making to Pixar.

I don't expect it will be as magical as the first, but I will put up with that for the pleasure of spending another 2 hours with Giselle and Robert. (And Nancy and Edward. And even the Queen, should they find a way to resurrect her.)
