Where the Wild Things Are! Finally! Photo: Warner Bros.
One of the most anticipated movies of the year, Spike Jonze's Where the Wild Things Are, has new footage which was shown at Comic-Con now available online. Do yourself a favor and watch the interviews with Spike Jonze and Maurice Sendak in the featurette. If you had any doubts about the project, allow them to be alleviated.
Why would you doubt it? The original book is a classic, brilliant, whimsical, and slightly dark in its presentation. Dave Eggers, who wrote the screenplay, is one of the top humorists alive, and his work is full of heart, absolutely necessary for an undertaking such as this. Spike Jonze, the director, has directed two films in the past decade, both of which are bona fide four-star master works, with Being John Malkovich being perhaps the most original movie of the past twenty-five years. He has a unique vision, and has beautifully transposed absurd screenplays into very realistic worlds in order to give them greater depth and treat them as real rather than cinematic. This style is of course perfect for Wild Things, and the footage of him filming should rev your engine more than ever.
The footage is below, and a revised version of the fantastic trailer is also available. Since the original trailer is perhaps one of the most effective and heartstring-tugging trailers in recent memory, I have also included it below. Please leave your feedback/anticipation/screams of desperate need to see this film below.
Other trailers that premiered at Comic-Con: Alice in Wonderland, Saw 6, The Book of Eli.
