Pixar's 'Up' wins big at animation industry Annie Awards!

Pixar's "Up" won the Best Animated Feature prize.

To no one’s surprise, Pixar’s critically acclaimed and smash hit “Up” won the top prize at the 37th Annual Annie Awards – the animation equivalent of the Oscars – while Laika animation’s “Coraline” and Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog” both collected three awards apiece making the evening a win for all.

“Up” which earlier this week became only the second animated film to earn a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars, won the Best Animated Feature award over “Coraline,” “Fantastic Mr. Fox,” “The Princess and the Frog,” “The Secret of Kells” and “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” – the same films it will compete against in the Best Animated Feature category at the Oscars.

Additionally, “Up” director Pete Doctor took home the Best Direction prize for his work on the film. So suffice to say, the film’s success at the Oscars in the Best Animated Feature category is as good as a done deal.

Henry Selick’s stop-motion animated “Coraline” took home three awards – Best Character Design, Best Music and Best Production Design while Disney’s return to 2D animation "The Princess and the Frog" won notices for Best Animated Effects, Best Character Animation and Best Voice Acting.

Wes Anderson’s “Fantastic Mr. Fox” - my personal favorite film from the group - won the award for Best Writing.
